Andros has many excellent quality beaches that satisfy all tastes. Beaches for families, fully organized and easily accessible, but also secluded beaches. Beaches with cold (up to crystal clear) waters and others, much warmer. Beaches with rich sand, but also pebbles and rocks for those who love fishing. Here you will find information about the 28 most important beaches of the island.
WEST ANDROS
On the western side of Andros are the long sandy beaches of the island, all leeward, easily accessible and utilized for tourism, as almost all of them have sunbeds and beach bars, while several have picturesque tavernas.
PISO LIMIONAS
Where it is located: In the northwestern part of the island, a little north of the beach of Fellos.
Special features: It is a large and completely quiet beach, with pebbles. There is no tavern (the closest one is in Fellos), nor canteen. The waters are crystal clear, but cold! Ideal for fishermen and those who love isolation.
How to get there: Following the road to Fellos, you will find the junction with the dirt road that leads to Pisolimiona.
FELLOS
Where it is located: In the North-West part of the island, a little north of the port of Gavrio, from which it is 5 kilometers away.
Special features: Very long sandy beach, with crystal clear waters, the depth of which varies. It is not organized, has trees that provide shade and is considered one of the best on the island. Very close to the beach is the tavern “Andrea’s hangout”.
How to get there: After Gavrio take the road to Fello and Ano Fello. The road will lead you to the beach.
KIPRI
Where it is located: On the west side of the island, on the main road that leads from Batsi to Gavrio, just before “Golden Sand” and immediately after “Agios Kyprianos”.
Special features: Sandy beach, with sunbeds, while two beach bars also operate. Possibility for water sports.
How to get there: By car or bus, following the main road of the island from the port of Gavrio, towards Stavropeda. Right after “Golden Sand” and before “Agios Kyprianos”. There is a parking space.
SAINT CYPRIAN
Where it is located: On the West side of the island, on the main road that leads from Batsi to Gavrio, just before “Golden Sand”.
Special features: Small sandy beach, characterized by the small church of Agios Kyprianos (Saint Cyprian). It is bordered by rocks that create good shade. Ideal for fishing. Diving lessons are held here. It operates a tavern.
How to get there: By car or bus, following the main road of the island from the port of Gavrio, towards Stavropeda. After “Golden Sand” and before Batsi. There is a parking space.
BATSI
Where it is located: In the village of the same name, which is one of the busiest on the island.
Special features: Fully organized beach, with sand and shallow waters, ideal for families. There are sunbeds and next to the beach you can find many taverns, cafes and snack shops.
How to get there: Very easily either by car or by bus. Next to the beach there is a comfortable parking lot.
BATSI – KOLONA (COLUMN)
Where it is located: At the edge of the village of the same name.
Special features: It is small but organized with sunbeds and a canteen. The impressive rocks, at its edge, are ideal for sunbathing.
How to get there: Either by car or by bus. Above the beach there is enough space for parking.
STIVARI
Where it is located: On the west side of the island, after Batsi, towards Chora.
Special features: Small sandy beach, with rocks. Good enough for fishing. It operates a tavern.
How to get there: By I.X. Take the road that goes through Batsi and follow the signs.
AGIA MARINA
Where it is located: On the west side of the island, after Batsi, towards Chora.
Special features: Sandy beach, with shallow and crystal-clear waters. It is not organized. It operates a tavern.
How to get there: By I.X. Take the road that goes through Batsi and follow the signs. It is located after Aneroussa. Also from the main road to Stavropeda, right before the intersection for Ano Aprovato.
OLD CITY
Where it is located: On the west side of the island, at the end of the homonymous village.
Special features: Pebble beach, where the ancient port of the village was located, which was also the first capital of Andros. The area has many archaeological finds. The beach is not organized.
How to get there: On foot. Park the car on the main road and following the path (there are signs) go down the slope to the beach.
CHALCOLIMIONAS
Where it is located: Right in the center of the western side of the island, in the area of Stavropeda.
Special features: Beach with sand and shallow waters. It has rocks on the right and left and is considered good for fishing. There is a beach bar. There are sunbeds. Mines operated in the area from ancient times to modern times.
How to get there: Very easily by car. Following the main road to Chora, at Stavropeda there is a fork to the right and immediately right again that leads to the beach. There is a comfortable parking lot.
APOTHIKES
Where it is located: Right in the center of the western side of the island, in the area of Stavropeda.
Special features: Sandy beach, crystal clear waters, a small and picturesque cove, also ideal for fishing. There are a few umbrellas, while there is also a beach bar.
How to get there: By I.X. Following the main road to Chora, at Stavropeda there is a fork to the right and immediately to the right again that leads to Chalkolimiona beach. About half a kilometer before the end of the road, a dirt road on the left leads you to the Warehouses. There is a parking space.
PLAKA
Where it is located: On the southwest side of Andros, on the road to Korthi.
Special features: Crystal clear waters, with plenty of salt that dries on you. There are trees, buildings where boats are kept (called “konakia”) and rocks that make it an ideal beach for fishing. Significant traces of a prehistoric settlement have been found in the area.
How to get there: By I.X. Following the road Stavropeda – Korthiou, 2 km, approximately, after the village of Zaganiari, there is a branch on the right towards Plaka (there is a relevant sign). The branching, about 3 km, is a dirt road and even problematic in some parts of it.
EASTERN ANDROS
On the eastern side of Andros are the best, perhaps, beaches of the island. However, they are all exposed to meltemias and north-easterly winds. However, when there are no meltemias, the visitor has the opportunity to swim in beaches of unique beauty.
KORTHI
Where it is located: In the homonymous settlement of Andros, in the south-eastern part of the island.
Special features: It is large in area, with deep blue waters. Meltemias make it difficult for those who want to enjoy swimming in calm waters, but the bay is ideal for surfing.
How to get there: Access by car is very easy. There is also a connection with the local KTEL buses. It is located at a distance of 14 km from Chora and 35 km from the port of Gavrio.
VINTSI
Where it is located: On the south-eastern side of the island, in the area of Korthio.
Special features: Small beach, with minimal sand, but with good access and crystal-clear waters, it is ideal for those who love swimming and avoid sunbathing. It has cabins and showers. There is a tavern very close by.
How to get there: From Korthiou bay we take the road to the north and in a few minutes, we are at the beach.
TIS GRIAS TO PIDIMA
Where it is located: On the southeast side of the island, in the northern part of Ormos Korthio.
Special features: The long, narrow stone rock that rises from its waters. It is not a long beach. It has sand and fine pebbles, and its waters are crystal clear.
How to get there: By car the beach is 10 minutes from Korthi. The last 300 meters are mandatory walking meters, on a downhill path. There is, however, a boat that can take you by sea from Korthi.
SINETI
Where it is located: On the eastern side of the island, between Chora and Korthi.
Special features: One of the most beautiful beaches of the island. With pebbles, deep and crystal waters, and caves in the sea. The volume of the mountains creates a shadow in the afternoon hours. It is exposed to the north. This is where the “Dipotamata” gorge ends, with the traditional watermills. Several scenes of the movie “Little England” were shot here.
How to get there: By I.X. From Chora, following the main road to Korthi, we turn left towards the village of Syneti and immediately left again towards the beach.
PARAPORTI
Where is it located: In the east of the island. It is one of the two coves that “embrace” the capital of the island, Chora.
Special features: A large sandy beach, which is exposed to the northern winds. Caution is needed when northerly winds are blowing due to strong undercurrents. There is a tavern a short distance away.
How to get there: By car, following the road at the entrance of the Town, but also on foot from Cairo Square.
NEIMPORIO
Where is it located: In Chora. It is the second cove that “embraces” the capital of the island.
Special features: Sandy beach, with shallow water, ideal for families with small children. Here is the Nautikos Omilos Andros, while in the harbor one can see fishing boats and yachts. Organized beach, with sunbeds, showers and changing rooms. Taverns, cafes, bars are open.
How to get there: On foot from Chora, or by car, following the coastal road to Stenies.
GIALIA (Front and back)
Where they are: On the eastern side of the island, immediately after Chora, in the village of Stenies.
Special features: In front of Gialia there is gravel, as well as coarse pebbles, while there is also a restaurant. Behind Gialia there is a sandy beach. There are sunbeds and a beach bar. One can go from one beach to another by swimming.
How to get there: From Chora we follow the road to Neiporio and there we turn left towards Stenies and Apoikia. In a few minutes we come across the intersection (right) that leads to the village of Stenies. We follow it and meet the front Gialia on our right. We reach back Gialia on foot, leaving the car on the main road.
AXLA
Where it is located: On the eastern side of the island, north of Chora.
Special features: This is perhaps the most beautiful beach of Andros. Fine sand, small white pebbles, enchanting waters, plane trees until just before the sand and a small river that ends at the beach.
How to get there: Access is quite difficult and is done by a dirt road that starts on the right from the village of Vourkoti. It is much easier to access by sea, by boat from Chora.
VORI
Where it is located: In the eastern part of the island, near the village of Arni.
Special features: Sandy beach with clear blue and crystal waters. There are trees that provide shade. A special “touch” is the shipwreck – a ship stuck on the rocks. It is not organized.
How to get there: From the road to Remata and Arni, after Remata take the dirt road to the left and left again at the first fork.
ATENI
Where it is located: In the eastern part of the island, relatively close to Batsi, from which it is approximately 7 km.
Special features: Two beaches are formed. The smaller one (left) is more popular, as it is protected from winds and meltemias. The big one (right) is sandy, with crystal clear waters, ideal for surfing. In the large one there are sunbeds and a canteen.
How to get there: By I.X. Take the road from Batsi and follow the signs. The last part of the road is dirt, but in excellent condition.
VITALI
Where it is located: On the north-eastern side of the island, near the village of the same name.
Special features: One of the best beaches of Andros. It has a long sandy beach, but also pebbles. Crystal clear waters, while those looking for shade will find it under the rocks. There are sunbeds, in the summer months there is a tavern.
How to get there: After Gavrio we take the road to Agios Petros. In the village the road branches left to Vitali and right to Gides. We follow the road to Vitali. Almost half of the route is a dirt road, while the distance from Gavrio is approximately 14 km.
ZORKOS
Where is it located: On the north-eastern side of the island.
Special features: A large beach, with rich and golden sand, as well as crystal clear waters. Excellent beach also for those who love fishing. In the summer there is a tavern.
How to get there: From Gavrio, the journey is half an hour by car. Asphalt until Varidi and then a dirt road in good condition for approximately 5 km. Google maps.
